ever before and probably not since has there been a movie as blatantly tasteless as "Meet the Feebles". But note that I never said this was a bad thing. It is also probably one of the most offensive movies not made by Troma. The movie is about the dysfunctional cast of a variety show teetering on the edge of the big time. The food obsessed diva starlet catches her love interest, the show's producer, with its hot new female star; said producer gets screwed on a bad drug deal, which triggers withdrawal-induced flashbacks in another junkie cast member; still another is slapped with a paternity suit; the director films bizarre porn films in the theater basement; and its central star develops a fatal sex disease, while a tabloid reporter gleefully covers it all.
Oh, did I mention that all of the above are puppets?
Believe it or not, "Meet the Feebles", while blatantly ripping off everything from "The Muppet Show" to "Full Metal Jacket", is probably one of the most tastelessly funny, sick and twisted movies I think I've ever seen, or probably will. It's hard to find, but for the curious, well worth it, not unlike a bad car accident. Except instead of twisted wreckage, you get a huge puppet walrus going at it with a puppet Siamese cat. A fair trade-off, I think. "Meet the Feebles" is sick, immoral, and just plain wrong. And I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.
