Penitentiary III
(1987)
Reviewed by Jason Catanese
Rating: 1 Beans

rison movies are never good, and this one is no exception. This is a good example of how fun they are to watch, however.

Leon Issac Kennedy, the star, is back in prison again for murder, although yet again, like the first 2, was setup. This time his trainer gave him some wild pills that turned Leon into a machine, pounding the life out of his competitor. Crack, maybe? Doubtful, crack doesn't make you any stronger. It must be movie drugs.

In jail, Leon fights more people, which some pretty cool guy named Serengeti, played by Anthony Geary organizes. Serengeti also gets hourly manicures and has a French chef. It's pretty good so far, and we haven't even met Midnight Thud!

Midnight Thud is a martial arts fighting midget. He fights Leon, and beats him rather unfairly, that is, if you consider beating someone over the head with a lead pipe unfair, and is put in some dungeon like place. In his hideout, he watches some underground movies and smokes a lot a crack. Awesome.

Leon isn't in very good shape after the pipe beating, and to add to that, he's given shock treatment. Now he's just plain incoherent. Out of nowhere, Midnight Thud changes his ways and trains Leon for the big fight. He also gives a lecture and begins to act normal, which is odd, given the amount of crack he smoked(note: any movie which involves a midget smoking crack automatically makes it in my top ten).

Obviously Leon wins at the end, and is let out of jail again. Although this was a bad movie, it was one of the greatest films I have ever seen, if that's possible. Everyone go rent this now. It's got Midnight Thud, for Christ's sake! And he smokes crack!
